Sinclair Lewis "it Can't Happen Here." A scary dystopian novel about a dictatorship taking over the USA. In the league of 1984 and A Brave New World.

I remember hearing this in the early 80s and totally falling in love with it. So smart and moody and funky --and way ahead of its time.

Listening to this as I watch the riots on the news in the UK July 2024.

I love the way the vocals are mixed on this song because it gives this uncomfortable effect of being just a little bit too close for comfort, i don't think it quite comes through on these old UA-cam uploads but it just sounds really confrontational in the mix, The Residents are the masters of wielding the uncanny.

This is the song I play every time I make happy love sex to my wife.

One of my favorite memories is playing Diskomo for my husband, telling him "it's got one of the sickest beat drops in all of recorded history..." and then looking over to see the horrified look on his face as he realized I meant the "WE. WANT. COKE. OH. YEAH!" part. He was very perplexed and asked me "why can't you be normal???" Probably the greatest prank I could ever play on the guy lol. Eskimo + Diskomo continue to be my favorite things the Residents ever did. In the early 00's I spent 2 years listening to everything I could possibly find of theirs, although I have so much love for them I come back to Eskimo and Diskomo the most frequently.
